Overview
The Sandakphu is the highest peak in West Bengal and the trek takes you along the famous Singalila ridge. Singalila is a prominent spur of high ground that lies at the southern end of a long crest, that runs down from Kunchenjunga itself. You trek along this ridge by going through small settlements that are renowned for being one of the most scenically rewarding landscapes in the eastern Himalayan ranges, from the mighty Everest in Nepal to the revered Kangchenjunga in Sikkim, enveloping this rolling mountainous ridge with untouched perennial greenery and sheltering some immaculate wildlife within itself we reach the pinnacle of this forested ridge called Sandakphu. From this Himalayan hamlet 4 out of the 5 highest peaks of the world can be seen as part of an unworldly 180° panorama (Mt. Kanchenjunga, 28,169 ft, third highest), Mt. Everest (29,029 ft, highest), Lhotse (27,940 ft, fourth highest) and Makalu (27,838 ft, fifth highest) are visible sparkling spectacularly in the golden hue at sunrise.
